Tips for Viewing HTML Newsletters

Tips.Net publishes several HTML newsletters. This page has been prepared to help you view those newsletters better.

View Graphics

It is not uncommon for HTML newsletters to use graphics. Ours is no exception. Typically, we use 3 to 7 relatively small graphics in our newsletters. Most e-mail clients and browsers these days will not display graphics by default, instead choosing to hide them. If you don't download the graphics, you won't see them and some of the design of the newsletter may appear to be missing.

For most e-mail clients you may need to right-click on where the graphics would normally display in order to see them. To get the full benefit of Tips.Net newsletters, you will want to enable the display of graphics.

Activate Links

In some e-mail clients or Web browsers you may notice that links are not "active" in the newsletter. We have found that this is caused by the security settings of the client or browser. In most of these programs you can make the links active by choosing to download pictures, as described in the previous section. (This doesn't affect only those links associated with graphics; it may very well affect even links within the text of the newsletter.)

Adjusting Font Size

If the information in the newsletter is too hard to read, you may want to adjust the size of the font used to display that information. Here's how to do it in various e-mail clients and browsers:

  • Outlook Express: Hold down the Ctrl key as you turn the scroll wheel on your mouse. Or, open the message in its own window and use View | Text Size to specify a font size.
  • Outlook 2003: Hold down the Ctrl key as you turn the scroll wheel on your mouse. Or, open the message in its own window and use View | Text Size to specify a font size.
  • Outlook 2007: Hold down the Ctrl key as you turn the scroll wheel on your mouse. Or, open the message in its own window and click Other Actions | Zoom to pick a viewing magnification.
  • Gmail: This is a Web-based e-mail client, so size is dependent on your Web browser. Use Ctrl++ (plus sign) and Ctrl+- (minus sign) to adjust magnification. Use Ctrl+0 (zero) to reset magnification to the default value.
  • Yahoo: This is a Web-based e-mail client, so size is dependent on your Web browser. Use Ctrl++ (plus sign) and Ctrl+- (minus sign) to adjust magnification. Use Ctrl+0 (zero) to reset magnification to the default value.
  • Hotmail: This is a Web-based e-mail client, so size is dependent on your Web browser. Use Ctrl++ (plus sign) and Ctrl+- (minus sign) to adjust magnification. Use Ctrl+0 (zero) to reset magnification to the default value.
  • MSN: This is a Web-based e-mail client, so size is dependent on your Web browser. Use Ctrl++ (plus sign) and Ctrl+- (minus sign) to adjust magnification. Use Ctrl+0 (zero) to reset magnification to the default value.
